Scott

If I hadn’t ended up falling into sea turtles, I’d be a raptor ecologist!

Dr. Scott Eckert is a world-renowned sea turtle biologist, and was the first to successfully use satellite telemetry to study behavior and long-term movements of leatherback sea turtles and whale sharks. He joined the faculty of my alma mater, Principia College in 2010 when I was a Junior. Scott quickly became my mentor, and we've spent hours in the field following Peregrine falcons, rattlesnakes, and migrant passerines. He's a true biologist in every sense of the word, having done field work all over the globe. I'm lucky to have interviewed Scott, and collected some of his birding stories and insights for the project.
